man minus one

Welcome to Man Minus One, the home of artwork designed, created and actualized by Jim Allenspach. (And when I say "home", I mean "the Website that hasn't been done yet".) My audio work has been featured on radio shows like Some Assembly Required, radio stations like WFMU, and mix CDs put together by such diverse sources as DJ Riko and Stay Free! magazine. My digital artwork is mostly on display at An Exquisite Corpse, as mentioned below.

AUDIO

The most successful audio art project that I ever created is definitely Dictionaraoke, the project that took sound samples from online dictionaries and set them to music. The heyday of Dictionaraoke was the summer of 2001, when the artists on the Negativland related mailing list Snuggles created oodles and oodles of them. The first 100 or so songs were memorialized on a CD-R release, which you can still purchase from Dollar CD. The project still gets rediscovered now and again by people who haven't heard it before, and occasionally gets played on wacky morning drive-time DJ shows and the like. Some of my songs even got airplay on the Doctor Demento Show, which means that my name will be vaguely recognized in college dorm rooms for years to come.

Other audio art can be found at my page at Sensory Research Network and the audio area of DIY Media.

VIDEO

"A Special Opening" (YouTube link). A while back I stumbled across the source video for an audio piece that Negativland did for one of their "Over The Edge" compilations, and so I just cut up the video to match the audio.

DIGITAL COLLAGE

The majority of my digital collage work can be seen over at An Exquisite Corpse, which is a site that allows graphic artists to create digital images in the style of the Surrealist game Exquisite Corpse. There are some outstanding piece of art over there; it's definitely worth your time to have a look through the archives.
